Married: Renee Fleming, 52, and Tim Jessell, 54, over the Labor Day weekend in upstate New York. The internationally famous opera diva wed the Washington lawyer on Sept. 3 in a small ceremony for close family and friends. The bride wore a citron-colored gown by designer Angel Sanchez for the wedding, then a sage green Vera Wang for their NYC reception Wednesday night.
The groom, a corporate lawyer at Greenberg Traurig, met Fleming on a blind date in D.C. three years ago, set up by author Ann Patchett (who based the heroine of her novel “Bel Canto” on Fleming.) The couple got engaged six months ago. Second marriage for both; they have five kids ages 16-26 between them.
Will the New York-based Fleming move to Washington? Not yet, although her sister just took a job teaching voice at Catholic University.
Fleming married actor Rick Ross in 1989, and they have two daughters together; Amelia, born in 1993, and Sage, born in 1995. The couple divorced in 2000, and Fleming has raised their children as a single mother.
